New lawn installation or any seeding work:

New Lawn Care: Your First-Year RoadmapA brand-new lawn is like a brand-new puppy—give it the right care up front and you’ll enjoy years of healthy, worry-free growth. Follow these guidelines during the critical establishment phase (the first 12 months) and you’ll set your turf up for success.
⸻
1. Keep Seed Consistently Moist • 24/7 dampness is non-negotiable while seeds germinate.
• Water twice a day (morning and late afternoon) with a gentle spray so the top ½ inch of soil never dries out.
2. Feed for a Strong Start • Four weeks after installation, apply a starter-grade fertilizer to boost root development and fill-in speed.
3. Mow at the Right Height • First mow when grass reaches 3½ inches.
• Set mower blades to 3 inches—tall enough to protect tender roots, short enough to promote thickening.
4. Keep Pets (and Heavy Foot Traffic) Off • No paws or play for at least 30 days.
• Early compaction can crush new roots before they anchor.
5. Expect Weeds—It’s Normal • New seed + no weed-control treatments (yet) = the occasional intruder. Don’t panic!
• A selective weed-control program can begin ≈ 8 weeks after installation if desired.
6. Be Patient: Full Thickening Takes Up to One Year • Germination happens in weeks—but true density comes with the seasons.
• Regular mowing, balanced fertilization, and proper watering will gradually crowd out most weeds and create that lush, carpet-like finish.

New plant installation:
New Plant Care: Helping Your Landscape Take RootYour new plants are settling into their forever home—and a little thoughtful watering goes a long way. Here’s how to help them thrive during the critical first few months:
⸻
1. Water 2–4 Times per Week (Depending on the Weather) • Cooler days? 2 times a week is plenty.
• Hot, dry spells? Bump it up to 4 times.
• Remember: consistency is key during early root development.
2. Deep, Infrequent Watering is Best • Shallow daily watering trains roots to stay near the surface.
• Deep soaks encourage stronger, deeper root systems—making plants more drought-resistant over time.
3. Use the Hose-at-the-Base Trick • Place your hose right at the base of the plant and let it trickle slowly.
• Perennials: 10 minutes
• Shrubs: 15 minutes
• Trees: 20 minutes
• Avoid spraying foliage—focus on the roots where the plant actually drinks.
4. Check Moisture at the Drip Line • Go just under the mulch at the plant’s drip line (edge of the canopy).
• Grab a handful of soil and squeeze:
• Clumps together? You’re good.
• Dry and crumbly? Time to water!
5. Fertilize for Continued Growth • After 8 weeks, your plants can be fertilized again to support healthy growth through the season.

Paver patio installation and maintenance:
Paver Patio Maintenance: Keeping It Looking Like NewA professionally installed paver patio is built to last—and with just a little occasional care, it’ll stay beautiful and functional for decades. Here’s what to know:
⸻
Years 1–3: Virtually Maintenance-Free • Your new patio will need very little upkeep during the first few years.
• You might spot the occasional weed poking through—just pluck it and move on!
Year 4: Time for a Refresh • Around year four, it’s a good idea to give your patio a full refresh:
• Pressure wash the surface to remove grime, moss, and buildup.
• Reapply polymeric sand between the joints to keep them tight and weed-resistant.
Ongoing: Repeat Every 4–5 Years • This deep-clean and re-sanding cycle should be repeated every 4–5 years to keep the structure strong and the look crisp.
Important: Let Sand Cure • After installing new polymeric sand, avoid walking or placing furniture on the patio for at least 24 hours.
• This gives the sand time to cure properly and lock everything in place.
⸻
With just a little love every few years, your patio will stay as stunning as the day it was installed. Questions? Reach out to HollandScaping—we’re happy to help maintain the magic.
